CHICKEN PIE INGREDIENTS

Puff pastry: You can use homemade puff pastry or you can use store-bought puff pastry to save yourself time.

Chicken breast: skinless chicken breast. When it comes to picking the parts of the chicken, the options are endless and the whole process becomes overwhelming. But do not worry. Use skinless chicken breast, because they are the softest parts of the chicken. Another great option is using drumstick. Drumsticks might have bones but they are the second softest part of the chicken. You just have to remove the bones and the skin and you'll have a perfect chicken filling for the pie.

Peas: Use either fresh of frozen peas.

Onion: diced.
Carrots: diced.
Potato: Peeled and cubed.
Chicken stock cube: Chicken stock cube gave the filling a full chicken flavor. You can also use.
Flour: A tablespoon of flour to thicken the filling.

Egg: The egg work as a egg wash. It gives the pie a golden brown look.

HOW TO MAKE HOMEMADE CHICKEN PIE

There are a lot of different ways to make chicken pie with puff pastry. 
Here are some ways you can make your homemade chicken pie.

HOW TO MAKE CHICKEN PIE FILLING 
Sauté:  Add 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is ready, add chicken, onion, carrots and potatoes. Lightly brown them, then add chicken stock cube and a cup of water. 
Reduce heat and let it simmer for 10 minutes.
Add thyme, pinch of salt and pepper, a tablespoon of flour, butter and milk. 
Simmer again for 15 minutes without covering the pot.
Add peas and let it simmer for another 3 minutes.
Let this cool for 20 minutes before filling the pie.

ASSEMBLING CHICKEN PIE WITH PUFF PASTRY
Preheat oven to 190°C. 
Lightly grease a 9-inch baking dish.
Divide pastry into two and roll one pastry to fit the dish. 

Put chicken filling on the pastry using a spoon and cover with the remaining pastry.

Egg wash the top of the pie with egg using a pastry brush. Bake for 30 minutes.

HOW TO MAKE CHICKEN PIE IN A PIE MAKER 
Cut the pastry using a pastry cutter or using a knife. 

Cut the pastry into circular pieces to the desired size.

Assemble the pies. Press the pieces of pastry into the pie maker. 

Spoon the prepared filling into the pastry base and the remaining pastry. Press the edges to seal the two pastry layers.

Turn on the pie maker and close the lid.

CHICKEN PIE FAQs AND TIPS
Can I freeze chicken pie?
Yes you can freeze chicken pie. 
To freeze chicken pie, cover with a foil and freeze for up to 2 months. Remove from the freezer 40 minutes before baking. Bake uncovered with foil for 20 minutes at 150°C than remove foil and bake as directed in the recipe.

Can I make it vegetarian?.
Yes. Replace chicken with vegetables and replace chicken stock with vegetable stock.

Can I substitute chicken?
You can substitute chicken with turkey, for a turkey pie or with baked ham for ham pie.

Can I use homemade puff pastry?
Of course you can. I chose to use store bought puff pastry because I wanted my chicken pie to be quicker.

What can I serve with chicken pie?
Chicken pies are usually serve as main course paired with salad, washed potatoes or dinner rolls.

INGREDIENTS

  • 800g Puff Pastry
  • 2 Large cubed chicken breast
  • ½ Cup of peas(Frozen or fresh)
  • 1 Large diced onion

  • 1 Tablespoon of flour
  • 1 Tablespoon of butter
  • 200mls of milk
  • 1 Teaspoon of thyme
  • Salt and pepper
